Major new tourism attraction in midlands launches this week

A major new tourism attraction in the region is to open its doors, with confirmation that the a new distillery experience will be available from this week at Tullamore D.E.W Distillery in Tullamore.

From St. Patrick’s Day, visitors to the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery can now get closer to the whiskey-making process than ever before, while learning the secrets behind one of Ireland’s most popular whiskeys.

In celebration of all things distinctly Irish, Tullamore D.E.W. is proud to launch “The Ultimate Distillery Experience” on St. Patrick’s Day, giving visitors the chance to see, smell, taste and touch every aspect of how the famed whiskey is produced - and in a world-first for the distillery, they’ll be able to blend and bottle their own whiskey.

The Tullamore D.E.W. story tells the tale of a legendary liquid with 192 years of history. The grain to glass distillery spans a whopping 58 acres where the whiskey is milled, mashed, fermented, distilled, matured and bottled all on one site. Here, 11 million litres of whiskey are produced each year, making Tullamore D.E.W. and its distillery one of the finest examples of Ireland’s whiskey renaissance.

During the distillery experience, visitors will sip and savour an Irish coffee on arrival, walk the still house floor, feel the warm embrace of heat from the bubbling stills and taste the world’s second largest Irish whiskey brand’s award-winning whiskeys.

One of the most interesting parts of the tour will take place in the live Maturation Warehouse. Nestled amongst a sea of barrels stacked from floor to ceiling, is Ireland’s only custom-built Warehouse Snug. In the Secret Snug, visitors will get to “dip the dog” and taste whiskey direct from the cask whilst 50,000 barrels – over 10 million litres of whiskey – mature around them. The aroma in the air is pure magic.

At the end of the tour, visitors will get the chance to “Be the Blender” by blending and bottling their own unique whiskey to buy and take away. This state-of-the-art invention does not exist anywhere else in the world and brings personalised whiskey to a whole new level.

Speaking about the experience, John Quinn, the Tullamore D.E.W. global brand ambassador, said:

‘As we gear up to welcome people back to Tullamore, we are so excited to open the doors of our new distillery experience and offer visitors something truly unique. As a nation renowned for its whiskey, tourists have an inherent curiosity about this liquid and are eager to learn more about its production from the experts who create it. We spotted an opportunity to bring visitors even closer to the whiskey making process, so now, everyone who visits the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery is a VIP for the day.”

He continued: “Come and visit us at our world class distillery to see how we make our liquid from distillation to maturation and meet some of the people who work on-site every day. If you’re really curious about Irish whiskey, then this is the tour for you.’
