Twenty-eight new age-friendly homes for Athboy

Athboy will see the construction begin on 28 new age-friendly homes in the coming months.

Meath County Council has submitted a Part 8 planning application for the development of the 28 social housing units in the old convent grounds on the Kildalkey road in Athboy.

Local councillor, Mike Bray, has welcomed the application and said:

“I am delighted that this application has been lodged. The council and Minister for Housing have committed at least €6.8 million for the development of these age-friendly homes right in the centre of Athboy.

“This scheme of housing is for adults aged 55 years and over and will consist of one-bed, two-bed and three-bed single-storey houses, apartments and two-storey homes also.

“This site is ideally located for age-friendly houses as it is right beside the community centre and a short distance from the town centre, the medical centre, the church and the proposed new bus stop.

“The category of housing in most demand on the council’s housing list is one-bedroom properties for older people.

“One of the most regular queries I get as a councillor is from people in this age category who are looking for suitable housing as they approach retirement.

“The application went live on 21st March and can be viewed in Athboy library and the council offices in Kells and Navan. Submissions are accepted on this planning application up until the 6th of May 2022,” said Cllr Bray.
