‘Brinsley’s Bar’ to open this week

Sixteen months since it was purchased by the Comaskey family, ‘Brinsley’s Bar,’ on Main Street, Delvin, is on the cusp of opening its doors.

The new landlord is Frank Quinn, a Meath native who has worked a lifetime in the licensed trade, and he and his management team have great ambitions for the premises.

Frank has worked in bars since he left school and been self-employed for the last 20 years. Originally from Castletown, Navan, Frank has exciting plans for Brinsley’s Bar including live music, functions and parties. “We will cater for all sorts of family occasions and for funerals and look forward to hosting sports club celebrations,” he told the Westmeath Examiner.

Also speaking to the Examiner last week, Bernie Comaskey, the owner of the complex, expressed satisfaction on the calibre of the tenant they are entrusting their business to.

He also paid tribute to Aiden Egan, of Egan Auctioneers, who vetted the tenant process. “Frank Quinn will definitely make a go of this place,” said Bernie. “We took our time until both the time was right and the client was right. Pamela and I are thrilled to have saved this venue for the village of Delvin. It will completely open up that end of the town.

“We have Sean Fox Bookmakers in one unit and with another shop unit ready for renting – probably as ‘Trudy’s Coffee-to-Go’. We also have plans in place to utilise the first floor accommodation area. Builder, Gerry McGrath, along with master tradesmen, Peter Ledwith, John Lennon and Owen Murtagh, have left a monument to their creative genius. As for me, my job is done the day that Brinsley’s door opens!”

The official opening date is this Friday May 6 “provided the kegs can be in situ by that date!” said Bernie.
