Fine weekend ahead for bank holiday

Mainly dry for the bank holiday weekend apart from a few showers. Becoming more unsettled next week.

Mainly dry at first today with bright or sunny spells, but patchy rain will develop in the west and spread over Connacht and Ulster this morning. Rain will extend to all areas this afternoon and early evening, becoming heavy in Ulster and north Leinster. Drier in the west this evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, warmest in the east and southeast, with light variable breezes.

Tonight, outbreaks of rain will continue along the east coast. It will be mainly dry elsewhere with some clear spells and some patches of mist and fog. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in light variable breezes.

Friday morning will be mainly dry with sunny spells and scattered showers developing, some possibly turning heavy especially in Leinster and Munster. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, warmest in the midlands and west, with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.

Generally dry and clear Friday night, although scattered showers may persist in the south. Minimum temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light to moderate northeasterly breezes.

Saturday is expected dry and sunny across most of the country, although a few showers may push in to southern coastal counties at times. Highest temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, coolest along the east coast. Winds remaining light to moderate northeasterly.

Continuing dry and clear in most areas overnight on Saturday, with isolated showers pushing into the south. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light northeast to east breezes.

Sunday will bring dry weather with sunny spells in the morning and afternoon, but rain pushing into Leinster and Munster in the evening. Highs of 14 to 19 degrees, coolest in the east and southeast, with light to moderate easterly breezes.

Bright or sunny spells are forecast for Monday. Some showers in Leinster and Munster, but mainly dry in Connacht and Ulster. Highs of 13 to 17 degrees, with light easterly or variable breezes.

Current indications suggest that the weather will become more unsettled from Tuesday onwards with spells of rain spreading from the southwest. Temperatures will be in the high teens or low twenties.
