Agri-diesel stolen from local farm

Agri-diesel was stolen from a farm in the Brownstown area on Saturday last. While the amount of diesel taken was relatively small, gardaí have urged members of the farming community to be vigilant when it comes to security measures on their premises.

Meanwhile Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry after a person posing as a volunteer collecting money for Ukraine stole “sizeable amounts of money” from two older people in the Mullingar area last week.

A garda spokesperson told the Westmeath Examiner that a young women holding a clipboard and believed to be a “foreign national” gained entry into the people’s houses under false pretences, and after distracting the occupants made off with their cash.

The garda spokesperson also urged the public to be “extra careful and vigilant” if an unknown person calls to their door and that if they witness anything suspicious to call Mullingar Garda Station directly on (044) 938 4000.
