Eireball Charity Drive stop-off in Mullingar this weekend

“The Eireball is back this year and will be better than ever before,” says Eireball Charity driver Enda Collins.

The Eireball Charity Drive is back after a two-year break and will stop off in Mullingar this Sunday evening before taking to the road again on their journey across the country.

A number of classic Volkswagen camper vans will start on their six-hour daily drives from Wicklow on Saturday, July 16, and are expected to park up at Lilliput Mullingar around 7pm on Sunday.

They intend to stop in the town briefly to refuel and prepare for the following day.

The Eireball event has been running since 2006 and has raised thousands of euro for charities across the country since.

This year, all funds raised from the event will go to the Irish Community Air Ambulance and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.

Drivers involved in the event are excited and prepared for the long drive.

Enda said: “I do it every year and can’t wait for this year’s drive to begin.”

There is a different travel route each year but this year, drivers begin their long spin in Baltinglass, County Wicklow, continue to Mullingar, then to Claire, Tipperary and Wexford.
