Mullingar Town Band on the NMCU Gig Rig stage at Blackhall.

'We're getting the full whack of the fleadh!'

Mullingar Town Band took to the NMCU Gig Rig stage this afternoon and played a selection of marching tunes but with a modern twist.

Mick Foster introduced the performance with a few encouraging words and some background on the town band.

He complimented Fleadh Cheoil superstar, Hubie Magee for his role in turning the Mullingar Town Band from very local into an internationally recognised marching band.

Kim Magee, band director and music educator, led the musicians into each of their pieces.

She said: "This is a combination of our marching band, our adult community concert band and our lovely colour girls in front of us.

"We are delighted to be here today and we want to say thank you to the wonderful fleadh committee for inviting us to be a part of the Gig Rig and a huge congratulations on all their hard work.

"Our hall is also a venue for this year's fleadh. We're hosting competitions, concerts and set dancing events its none stop so we're really enjoying it. We're getting the full whack of the fleadh!"

The band played a collection of upbeat marching tunes with a modern twist that sounded flawless and was very entertaining.

They also played a selection of modern songs including, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ by Journey, ‘Rolling in the Deep’ by Adele and ‘Still into You’ by Paramore.

A very impressive performance by the local marching band.
