Clonmellon artist with Eco Showboat at Electric Picnic

Clonmellon artist Rudi-Lee McCarthy will represent the eco showboat expedition at Electric Picnic in Laois this weekend.

The eco showboat project is a solar-powered expedition on the river Shannon and the river Erne to spark climate action.

The 2022 exhibition was a four-month arts voyage from Limerick to Enniskillen aboard the Mayfly, the flagship of the eco showboat project, and the first solar electric boat to make the journey.

The project is the brainchild of artists Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly of the School of Looking.

Artist Rudi-Lee McCarthy has been travelling alongside the eco showboat since early July.

He shoots footage at events and is “just being the roadie”, as he likes to say, and he helps with the behind-the-scenes of the project too.

Rudi, the eco showboat crew and guest speakers will be at the Human Lab tent at the Mindfield section of Electric Picnic.

On Friday, Rudi-Lee McCarthy will be on stage to tell the story of Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly's project.

Deirdre Murphy, Lil Sheeran and Jason McNamara will follow with a variety of performances.

On Saturday, the eco showboat team will welcome Niall Ó Brolcháin on stage to deliver his outstanding discussion titled ‘For Peats Sake’.

He will talk through his research about the Irish bog and how we can celebrate the bog landscapes as we combat the current energy crisis.

Mr Ó Brolcháin will open the floor to the audience during this discussion.

Sunday will see emerging eco artists, Lisa Della Chiesa and Luke Pendelbury on stage with Anne Cleary and Denis Connoly as they discuss their practice and the importance of ecological art.

Rachel O’Malley and the Lawpro team will also make an appearance.

Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly are encouraging eco-conscious attendees of Electric Picnic to come to see some artwork, chill out, and hear the music and discussions.

They would like to see more young artists and studying artists attend, network and engage with the Eco Showboat, as the project will publicly continue in summer 2023.

Rudi will be around all weekend representing the project and is open to talking about it to anyone interested.

Timetable for the eco showboat.
