‘Hard Named’ wins in style

Despite the damp weather a good crowd turned out at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday September 3.

Deirdre Barry recorded the first leg of a double in the 525 yds first race with newcomer Molly Moocow, which she trains for Carlow owner Matthew Byrne. From a fast start she made all the running to hold off the fast finishing Ripley’s Delight by a neck in 30.15 on her debut outing.

In the 400 yds second race Puppacino broke in front and gave a powerful front running display to score by five and a half lengths from Clonfert Ollie in 22.27. The winner is jointly owned by Michael and Nigel Leonard, Kildare.

Henno’s Lola recorded her first success at her thirteenth attempt in the 525 yds third race for her Meath owner Patrick Hendrick. After avoiding bunching at the first bend she made all the running to win by four and a half lengths from Dashing Stranger in 30.50.

Brunswick Billy broke in front in the 525 yds fourth race and powered home seven and a half lengths clear of Lyneen Wagon in 29.80. The winner is trained by Margaret Bolton for Mrs Lynda Butland, Warwickshire.

Westmeath owner John Cunningham supplied the winner of the 525 yds fifth race with Ardevan Sky. Having been led in the early stages, she took control at the third bend and powered home two and a half lengths clear from Gail Soprano in 30.12.

Optic Xplosive opened her winning account at her sixth attempt in the 400 yds sixth race for her Westmeath owner and trainer David Halon. Having been led for most of the trip, he came in the last few strides to win by three and a half lengths in 21.90.

In the 525 yds seventh race, Mythical Orchard made most of the running and led into the home straight, where Bull Run Berry forced ahead in the last few strides to win by half a length from the long time leader in 30.13. The winner is jointly owned by Billy Reilly and Niall Thynne, Navan and trained by Ian Reilly.

Mullingar owner Miss Joan Byrne supplied the winner of the 550 yds eighth race with Hard Named. Having been led into the home straight by Vinegar Joe, she found top gear on the run to the line to win by an extending two lengths from the early leader in 30.81.

From a level break in the ninth race, Castle Hill Luke took the lead at the first bend and opened up a long lead, where Shrewd Said So his advantage by a length and a half in 29.86 for Tyrone owner David Graham.

Deirdre Barry completed the double in the 525 yds tenth race with Shady Twirl. After taking control in the early stages, she made all to win by six and a half lengths from Home Oisín in 29.60.

Horseleap Nelly best on Sunday

The Sunday September 4 all graded ten race programme at Mullingar attracted a nice-sized crowd on a pleasant evening.

In the 525 yds first race, Murmuration broke in front and led into the home straight, where Omass Glen came with a late run to snatch a short head verdict in 30.26. The winner is jointly owned by Thomas Farrell and Gerry Carroll, Westmeath.

Nailor’s Kiwi broke in front in the 525 yds second race and made all the running to hold off the late challenge of Lingrawn Woody by half a length in 29.96. This 11/2 winner is owned in Kildare by Conor O’Neill.

In the 525 yds third race over the 525 yds, Knockmant Jan broke in front and led into the home straight, where the chasing Home Fia took control and held on to win by a length and a half from the early leader in 29.99. The winner is owned by Mrs Marcella Campbell, Laois.

John Young, Kildare supplied the winner of the 525 yds fourth race with Clonfert Kate. Having been led in the early stages, she finished best to win by half a length from Lingrawn Review in 30.06 and opened his winning account at her ninth attempt.

Dollar Giant did the business in the 525 yds fifth race for his owner and trainer Beatrice Steiner. From a fast start, he made all the running to win by a comfortable five and a half lengths from Sober Style in a career best 29.40.

Daniel O’Reilly recorded the first leg of a double in the 525 yds sixth race with Off the Beat. After flashing from the traps, she held pole position all the way to win by three and a half lengths from Innocent Secret in 29.53.

Willseanwin completed the O’Reilly double in the 525 yds seventh race. Having been led in the early stages by Jaxx Fashiondoll, she made rapid progress close to home to win by two and a half lengths in 29.99.

The best return of the session was posted in the eighth race by Horseleap Nelly, which is owned by Sean McGuinness, Offaly. After breaking in front, she gave a smashing front running display to win by a length and a half from Downstream Chief in 29.27.

Ian Reilly supplied the winner of the 525 yds ninth race with Phoenix Buster, which he trains for Billy Reilly, Navan. Having been led by Eskadron into the back straight, he found top gear at the turn for home to win by three lengths from the earlier leader in 29.62.

Drumroe Rocky made it a quick double for John J. Cummins, Meath in the 525 yds tenth race. Knockmant Bonnie broke in front and led into the home straight where Drumroe Rocky finished best to win by three lengths in 29.82.
