TG4 programme Cúltír to feature Westmeath

The Village Barn in Tyrrellspass is the venue for the final episode of Cúltír (‘Hinterland’) on TG4 on Sunday September 18 (9.30pm).

The programme will focus on the rich musical and cultural heritage of County Westmeath.

Musical legends Foster and Allen join Moyra Foster and viewers will also hear from rising talents such as Eva Coyle and Colin Nee among others.

A trip through time along Westmeath’s famous lakes takes presenter Aoife Ni Bhriain to Belvedere House, home of the infamous Rochfords, while the ancient wonders of the Hill of Uisneach inspire presenter Aoife Ní Bhriain to try her hand at a modern artform – chainsaw carving.

Rooted in live performance, Cúltír presenters Aoife and Pauline Scanlon, both rising stars of the Irish music scene, guide viewers through the musical and cultural heartbeat of six Irish counties.

Focusing primarily on traditional and folk music they visit Counties Westmeath, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Roscommon and Cork and also Fingal.

Pauline and Aoife take to the stage with the cream of each county’s musical talent, from John Spillane in County Cork to Mick Hanly in County Kilkenny and across the Shannon to Roscommon to hear from the legendary Matt Molloy and John Carty to Leslie Dowdall and rapper JyellowL in Fingal to Westmeath legends Foster and Allen.

Presenters and guests perform in front of a live audience for one night only, at a diverse range of local venues, from the intimate Tots Pub in Ballygurteen in West Cork to the Manor House at Mount Juliet, County Kilkenny, Kings House in Boyle, County Roscommon, and The Barn, Tyrrellspass.

Featured performers and interviewees range from proud and iconic county men and women to newcomers with fresh perspectives on each county’s unique cultural character and musical traditions.

On September 18 at 9.30pm on TG4 The Village Barn in Tyrrellspass is the venue for the final episode of the season.
