St Finnian and Clonard festival next Saturday

On Saturday 17 September a one-day Saint Finnian and Clonard festival is taking place at St Finnian’s Church in Clonard.

Everyone is welcome to come and join this celebration of inspirational talks, music and song, and a short pilgrim walk to the site of St Finnian monastery.

Historical insights on St Finnian and Clonard will be given by guest speaker Dr Pádraig Ó Riain, Professor Emeritus, University College Cork, and Dr Holger Lönze, Dealbhóir/sculptor, who lives in Ballinaskelligs, Kerry, will give an insight on medieval bells.

Music and song will be provided by Máire Ní Duibhir with a group of students from Ballinasloe and Galway.

Registration with tea/coffee is at 10.30am; the event starts at 11am.

There will be a break for lunch with tea/coffee provided but bring your own refreshments for eating.

The festival will conclude with a short pilgrim walk starting at 2pm from the church in Clonard to the old St Finnian’s Monastic site and St Finnian‘s Well.

The event is free – however you may like to make a suggested contribution of €10 to support the work of the local committee.

The event is organised by the St Finnian of Clonard Project Group, Kinnegad Parish and the National Association Friends of Saint Columbanus.
