Charliemay has her hair cut for LauraLynn

Charliemay Walsh-Gardiner (8) from Drumcree had her hair cut at a special event at Bartley’s Bar in Drumcree on Saturday evening.

The eight-year-old was raising funds for LauraLynn, the children’s hospice, and her hair will be used by the Rapunzel Foundation to make wigs for children who have lost their hair through medical treatments, such as chemotherapy, or illnesses, like alopecia.

Charliemay is in second class at St Tola’s NS, Delvin, and she had told her mother, Caroline Walsh, that she’d "had enough" of having very long hair. Her grandmother, Patricia Gardiner, passed away last year, and Charliemay saw her without her hair as she underwent treatment for cancer so she had an understanding that children can also lose their hair due to illness.

Anne McGrath, a hair stylist at Agnes Burke Hairdressing in Mullingar, did the haircut. There was music at the event from Charliemay’s father Mark Gardiner, who performs as Real Steel.

People can make donations to LauraLynn on Caroline’s Facebook page, or they can contact Caroline on 0894646480.
