Celebrations mark one-year anniversary of Athlone's university status

The first birthday of the TUS technological university fell on Saturday last - and the milestone was marked with cake at its Athlone campus yesterday.

The university, which replaced Athlone IT, came into being on October 1, 2021.

The change created a new institution of more than 14,000 students and 1,200 staff, with campuses in Athlone, Limerick (Moylish and Limerick School of Art and Design, Clare Street), Clonmel, Ennis and Thurles.

On social media today, TUS shared pictures of cake-cutting celebrations to mark the anniversary at its campuses in the Midlands and Midwest.

"We were delighted to celebrate this special milestone with students and staff this morning and we look forward to seeing all that will be achieved in the year ahead.

"Our journey has only just begun," said the TUS Athlone Twitter account.
