Fire Safety Week: Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Westmeath County Council are supporting National Fire Safety Week, which runs until Saturday October 23.

This year’s theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives – Have you a plan if yours goes off?!”

The theme builds on the previous year’s campaign on the importance of having a working smoke alarm in the home.

As part of Fire Safety Weeks activities, Westmeath County Council will be promoting fire safety through online social media campaigns.

This year the Council has collaborated with Offaly County Council in developing a short radio advertisement to encourage fire safety to as wide an audience as possible in both counties.

This year’s media focus will centre on encouraging people to have smoke alarms, the importance of testing them and knowing what to do in the event that they go off.

Given the rise of fuel and electricity, messages will be mindful of the energy and cost of living crises and advise on the safe use of household appliances.

As always should anyone have any queries on fire safety, they should contact their local fire officer for free, impartial advice on 044-9332000 or alternatively by e-mailing fire@westmeathcoco.ie.
