Preparing for the start of the 2023 Darkness Into Light event at St Loman’s GAA in Mullingar.

Westmeath Darkness into Light events this Saturday

A number of Darkness into Light walks are to take place in Westmeath on Saturday, May 11.

The national event is sponsored by Electric Ireland and is in aid of suicide prevention, and funds raised go to Pieta House.

Some 560 people have already signed up for Darkness into Light events in Westmeath this year and €3,418 has already been raised.

In Mullingar, it will begin at 4.15am at St Loman’s GAA grounds, from where participants make their way to the town park via Millmount Road and return to the start point at St Loman’s.

The Mullingar event has been organised collaboratively this year by Writech, Mullingar Tidy Towns, Apache Pizza and Pita Pit.

Darkness into Light is also taking place in Ballymore this year. The walk will start at 4.15am on the High Street, go down to Ballymore GAA grounds, and then back to the town where tea and refreshments will be available for all.

St Mary’s GAA, Rochfortbridge are hosting a Darkness into Light event. It starts at 5am at the parish hall. O’Reillys have sponsored refreshments in their cafe afterwards.

People in the Clonmellon area can take part in a DiL walk beginning at 4am at Girley Hall.

The Athlone DiL starts at 4.15am from the Athlone Town Stadium at Lissywollen.
