Westmeath TD kicking off 2023 by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

A local TD is kicking off 2023 by climbing Africa's tallest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Deputy Robert Troy and his wife Aideen Ginnell will attempt to climb the 5,895m fabled Tanzanian peak on January 3. In the process the Fianna Fail man is raising funds for Mullingar Rotary Club.

In a post on his GoFundMe page for the climb, the Ballynacargy native says that “while it is a daunting task, it is also an immense privilege”.

“In completing this trek, I wanted to raise funds for Mullingar Rotary Club, which disperses funds to worthy local charities each year.

“All proceeds will go directly to a charity, and no money raised will be utilised for any expenses incurred,” he said.
