Streete preparing for Fairy Light Tractor Run

Article by Kevin Brady, Streete Parish Park committee

Tractor runs have become a new tradition in recent years.

The Christmas tractor run encourages farmers to decorate their tractors in Christmas lights and tour around their local areas in convoy.

It brightens up the darkness of winter and brings a great festive lift to the towns and villages as they pass through.

It is fantastic to see the many young farmers and clubs come out in aid of local charities.

It was towards the end of 2021, when the committee of Streete Parish Park sat down at our kitchen table to consider of new ways to help and support charities in our area.

We are delighted to have supported charities that need funding to help them through the difficult times.

For many years, we organised a run and walk in aid of St Christopher’s Services, Edgeworthstown branch.

Then Covid-19 came along and the need to social distance.

So last year, we decided to organise a fairy light tractor run and that proved a great success.

Tractor runs aid and support charities all across the country, and we aim to support the local ones which are close to our hearts.

Our event is planned for Wednesday, December 28.

Streete Vintage Club are widely known and members are looking forward to what is becoming the annual fairy light tractor run, an event which could not take place without the help of volunteers and clubs in the locality.

The run begins at Streete Parish Park and follows a loop around the area, taking in Lismacaffrey, Killasona, Abbeylara, Granard, and returning to the parish park via Lisryan and Streete.

Spectators are asked to wrap up well and stop at safe places, and, most importantly, to please contribute to our bucket collectors.

Strict safety rules will apply to everyone.

Registration is €20 and drivers are asked to arrive as early as possible. The run will start at 6pm.

Refreshments will be available for drivers on their return.
