Plan for twelve new houses in Moate is approved

A plan to build twelve new terraced houses on the Clara Road in Moate has been given the green light by Westmeath County Council.

DPS Developments Ltd, with a company address in Oranmore, Galway, applied last May for planning permission for the twelve two and three-bedroom houses at Killenboylegan, Clara Road, Moate.

The project is to include eight two-bed houses and four three-bed houses, developed in two terraced blocks.

In July, the council sought further information on the project, including a request for revisions to the "overall layout and streetscape" of the development.

The developer responded to the further information request shortly before Christmas, saying that, following discussions with Westmeath County Council planner Paula Hanlon, it had drawn up "a new revised layout" for the development.

"In order to enhance the streetscape, we have removed the carparking from the front of each house and are now providing twelve communal carparking spaces in two areas to the east and west of the site," stated the response from S. Hanniffy & Associates Consulting Engineers, on behalf of the developer.

"These parking areas will be obscured using 1.5m high landscaped hedges, which will enhance the streetscape when viewed from the Clara Road."

In a decision on Friday last (February 10), the council approved the plans, subject to fifteen conditions.
