Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

More now playing trad music

The number of children and adults taking up traditional Irish music, singing and dancing in this area since last summer’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann has shot up, according to Joe Connaire, chairman of the fleadh committee.

He welcomed that and hoped that the return of the fleadh in 2023 will lead to a further rise in numbers.

“This was the biggest cultural music event to take place and people are talking about it all over the world. We are proud of our achievements, and hopefully we will have the high temperatures of last summer for this year. That will help,” he said.

“We want to leave a legacy that people will talk about, the two years the fleadh was in Mullingar and how successfully run it was. Once this event is over, I will not see its likes again in my lifetime.”
