Westmeath name U-20 team for Kildare clash

The Westmeath U-20 football team has been named for the Leinster championship opening round clash against Kildare tonight (Tuesday).

Westmeath take on defending Leinster champions Kildare at Hawkfield, close to Newbridge, throw-in 7.30pm.

Damien Gavin's side includes Caulry's Senan Baker and Shandonagh's Daniel Scahill, both of whom have featured for the Westmeath seniors this year.

Daragh Lowry of Moate All Whites - joint captain of the Moate CS team which reached this year’s Leinster Schools SF 'A' final - is selected in defence. The team also includes Tubberclair duo Tom Kelleher and Matthew Whittaker.

Athlone's Ben Killian joins Milltown's Dylan Murtagh at midfield, with Danny McCartan (a brother of senior star Sam), Brían Cooney (son of former senior manager Jack) and Shane Hanley selected in the forward line.

Considering the dominance of Naas CBS in Leinster Schools football over recent years, Kildare are likely to be formidable opponents for Westmeath.

Wexford are also in the three-team group and after a bye in round two, Westmeath will host the Slaneysiders in round three.
