Loreto College presents awards to students

The annual Loreto College Mullingar awards night returned on Friday March 31, after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The night was organised to celebrate the Leaving Cert classes of 2020, 2021, 2022. Students from those years showed great resilience during their Leaving Certificate studies, not least because a large portion was online.

Ms Callaghan, acting principal, spoke of the importance of the night in the school calendar: “We are delighted that our annual awards night returns this year. We are especially happy that we have been able to invite back so many students from the Leaving Certificate classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022 to celebrate them and their achievements.

“Many of the Leaving Cert students in those years were deprived of their traditional end of year celebrations and as a school community, we felt it was important to mark their time in our school.

“We are exceptionally proud of all of the students who have graced the corridors of Loreto College, and we are pleased to be able to welcome the award recipients and their family members back to the school on this special night.”

The night began with a prayer from Sr Anna, who remembered in particular Leah Carolan (Leaving Certificate class of 2021) and former staff member Barbara Keena, who are sadly no longer with us.

On the night, awards made included the Spirit Award, Mary Ward Prize, Sr Teresita Award, Joy Award, Sporting Excellence award, Deirdre Brennan Award, Rene Lysaght Award, Sixth Student of the Year, Music Student of the Year, Art Student of the Year, Scientist of the Year, Linguist of the Year, and LCVP Student of the Year.
