Westmeath organisations share in €1.3 million thanks to Intel employees

Almost 30 organisations in Westmeath are to share in a €1.3 million thanks to Intel employees.

Volunteering is a valued part of the culture at Intel, the company said in a statement today, and throughout their 50-plus year history volunteering has been encouraged and facilitated to make it as meaningful as possible.

Every year Intel Ireland employees volunteer thousands of hours in the communities where they live and work.

Fifteen years ago Intel began a Matching Grant programme, so that for every hour that an Intel employee volunteers at an approved organisation, there’s a ‘match’, or grant, of $10 paid by the Intel Foundation to that organisation.

The results of the 2022 Matching Grants show that 314 community organisations and schools received grants that total €1,341,960, as Intel employees had volunteered 134,196 hours that were eligible to be matched.

The Westmeath organisations that were part of the 2022 Matching Grant Scheme received a total of €155,690.

Director of Public Affairs at Intel Ireland, Sarah Sexton, said: “Charities, sports clubs, emergency services, education and social groups are the backbone of our communities. Intel are proud to celebrate, and to support, the valuable time given to these organisations by our employees through the Matching Grant programme. I’m sure that the grants, coupled with the substantial impact of our employees’ time, will make a lasting impact to organisations across the country.”
