Charity fundraiser proves successful

Bank holiday Sunday and Monday saw a riot of pink hit the fairways in New Forest. Blessed with glorious sunshine, forty shades of pink adorned the highway’s and byways around Tyrrellspass.

The joyous occasion was the play in pink fundraiser for the very worthy local cancer charity LARCC. Every section of the club participated with vigour.

The senior club had a scramble on Thursday beforehand, the junior club, totally on its own initiative organised a 9h scramble on the Sunday evening, raising a substantial sum on their own merits, while the ladies and men’s club participated in the scramble Sunday and Monday.

Over 50 adult teams plus juniors took to the fairways and the amount of money raised was mind boggling.

We are eternally grateful to all who entered, contributed organised and managed the competition.

Donie our greenkeeper certainly got his revenge, pins were in ridiculous positions and there was more than one whine from the boys in pink having to play off impossible blue tees!

While the ladies found the pin positions challenging, there was no complaints. Stephen and Chris in the pro shop played a blinder, taking the entrance fees, working out handicaps, keeping the tee times running smoothly, answering a thousand questions, explaining the rules and minding the money.

Both the men’s and ladies committees worked tirelessly to ensure the fundraiser was a huge success and grateful appreciation to all.

Many thanks to our main sponsors, Scanlon’s of Kinnegad and Londis, Kilbeggan.

Inter Club competition - Minor Cup

Sincere commiserations to our Minor Cup warriors who were beaten in the third round by a stronger Mount Temple side.

Despite playing to our best ability on the day, it wasn’t enough to see us through.

Three played at home, Rita O’ Shea, Peg Coyne and Teresa Heery, sub Sandra McKevitt, while Fleur Forbes and Jacinta Dillon, sub Bette Foran played in Mount Temple.

Many thanks to the players, subs, caddies and managers for their commitment and bravery throughout the competition.

Wishing Mount Temple every good fortune going forward in the competition.
