Oisín and Méabh O'Hara.

Mullingar twins selected for Leinster U18 squads

A brother and sister are among a group of young players from Mullingar Rugby Club who have been selected for the under 18 Leinster squads for the upcoming inter provincial series.

Twins Oisín and Méabh O'Hara not only share the same birthday, they also play out-half, just like their older brother Fionn, who played for Leinster U20s before switching codes and joining Hawthorn in the AFL last year. In a post on social media, Mullingar Rugby Club wished the twins well.

“As a club we’ve had many memorable firsts and we believe this has to be one of the very best. Climbing the heights of the Leinster Rugby Club’s pathway are Oisín and Méabh O'Hara who were both selected to the Under 18 Leinster squads, not alone are they twins, but they’ve taken that to the next level, as our young starlets both coincidentally play out-half. The O’ Hara name has a long association with Mullingar Rugby Club and we are thrilled to see that carried on. We wish them the very best in the coming weeks.”

Oisin will be joined in the 40 player extended squad by club mates Callum Mulligan, Eoin Conlon, John Casey, while Caoimhe McCormack has been named in the U18 girls squad along with Méabh.

The two squads will soon be heading to Swansea where they will have a training camp. The U18 boys squad will play warm up games against Gloucester and Cardiff Blues in preparation for the inter provincial series.

The first game of the interprovincial campaign will be an away game to Munster on Saturday, 20 August.

A week later, on Saturday August 26, Leinster will play their first home game in Energia Park against Connacht, before finishing their campaign, on the road for to take on Ulster in Belfast, on Saturday September 2.

The U18 girls squad will play matches against Newport Dragons and Cardiff Blues, in preparation for the inter provincial series.

The U-18 Girls Inter provincial Series is due to begin on the weekend of August 19, where Leinster will play Ulster at home in Energia Park.

The following weekend, August 26, Leinster will be at home once again to Munster, before finishing the series away, in the Sportsground to take on Connacht on the weekend of September 2.
