Westmeath Libraries supporting Ireland in World Cup this summer

Mullingar Library welcomed talented young players from RFA Swans this week to help launch the new FAI World Cup Activity Book celebrating Ireland’s participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

Fun and participation are paramount at Mullingar based RFA Swans, the only all ladies/girls soccer club in the midlands. They have teams from U9 to U18.

This year the club have brought home silverware at several age groups and competed in an U10s national blitz at the Aviva Stadium in April.

The club are going from strength to strength, thanks to their amazing young players, their parents, and a growing Swans Community, all with a common goal of supporting young girls to learn and love the game of soccer.

Westmeath Libraries welcome all children to their local library to collect their free FAI booklet and to get behind the Girls in Green.

Summer Stars

While visiting, young readers can register for Summer Stars, the national reading programme for children of all ages, and explore the full range of events and facilities at the libraries.

They include story time sessions, children’s activities, access to talking books and games, workshops, computers, and internet access, and of course books for all ages.

Reading during the summer helps children to maintain and improve their vocabulary, their reading and literacy skills, and helps establish a lifelong love of reading.

Access to the libraries is easier now, thanks to My Open Library at Castlepollard, Moate, and Mullingar, which allows access seven days a week, 8am-10pm.
