Cara Phort exhibition to showcase work by teenage photographers

An exhibition that opens at Cara Phort Family Resource Centre in Ballynacargy next week is of art by young people who did photography workshops over the summer with photographic artist Emma O’Brien.

Emma said: “We are delighted to be able to showcase the work created by our participants, thanks to Creative Ireland and Westmeath Arts Funding!

“Our exhibition will launch at Cara Phort FRC on Thursday, September 7 at 6pm. We will show the work of budding photographers age 12 to 14 who participated in the workshops, in June and July.”

Emma explained that the workshop was “practical, experiential and creative” which “explored photography as an exciting creative medium for engaging young people in their local community”.

She said that photography can provide a creative lens for young people to explore themselves and their world.

“Using the camera as a tool for self-exploration, a deeper understanding of their own identity and their place in the community is achieved.

“The workshop provided ways to build a sense of community and belonging by supporting young people to share experiences with each other, build relationships and create something new together.”
