With a career spanning more than 30 years, Ciaran has made an indelible mark in print and broadcasting media, and his latest literary offering promises to captivate readers with his unique insights into life in Ireland’s heartland.

Ciaran’s journey into the world of journalism began when, as a young reporter, he secured a trainee position under the guidance of Eugene McGee, editor of The Longford Leader.

That was the beginning of a storied career that would see him contribute to various journalistic endeavours, including The Cavan Leader, Shannonside Radio, and ultimately, as a presenter for the iconic, ‘Ear to The Ground’ on RTÉ television. Ciaran later took the helm as the RTÉ midlands correspondent.

Throughout his career, Ciaran’s reporting on life in the midlands brought him closer to the issues facing rural Ireland. His deep understanding of those shaped his professional life and left an indelible mark on his personality.

On retiring from journalism, Ciaran seamlessly transitioned into the realm of writing, primarily focusing on rural life.

He began with ‘Death on Holy Thursday: The Shooting of John Carty in Abbeylara’, published by Backwater Press in 2006. That powerful work was followed by ‘Back To The Future: Reflections on Rural Life, Recession, and Renewal over 30 Years of Journalism’ in 2015.

At the launch event in Just Books, fans and readers gathered and the shop was filled with eager readers who queued up to have their copies of Ciaran’s latest offering signed. Ciaran went above and beyond, signing books and engaging with the audience, answering questions about his career at RTÉ, and sharing captivating stories that shed light on the future of Ireland.

Ciaran’s new book promises to be a compelling exploration of life in the Irish midlands, offering readers a unique perspective informed by his decades of journalistic experience. As a beloved figure in the world of Irish media, his latest work is certain to resonate with a wide audience.
