Local group receives keys of Serenity House

Representatives of Kinnegad Community Council and Action Group received the keys of Serenity House from Liam Higgins, head of land and buildings at Westmeath County Council, last Wednesday.

Cllr Denis Leonard, as chairperson of the group, pointed out that the facility had been closed since 2017, and will now be used for the local Women’s Shed and active retirement group.

He said: “Until the new Kinnegad library meeting rooms are available next summer, Serenity House will serve as a meeting place for the Kinnegad active retirement group and Kinnegad Women’s Shed among others. It will then revert to the housing section of the council.

“I was joined by Elizabeth and Oliver Pegley from the Kinnegad active retirement group and Breege Doyle and Laura Walsh from Kinnegad Women’s Shed, as well as Peter Dixon from our group, who will act as caretaker, and Jimmy O’Connell (not in the picture), who is Kinnegad Community Council and Action Group group treasurer.

“We arranged, as Kinnegad Community Council, to have the building freshly painted as an iconic building on Kinnegad Main Street.”
