JP McManus donates €1m to Westmeath GAA

Westmeath GAA clubs are set to receive a cash injection of €1m courtesy of JP McManus.

According to reports in the national media, the Limerick born businessman is donating €1m to every county for investment in all codes of the GAA.

News website Extra.ie, which broke the story, reports that the €1m from the JP McManus Charitable Foundation will be divided equally between every football, hurling, camogie and ladies football club in each county.

It is not the first time that McManus, who is the main sponsor of Gaelic games in his home county, has used his considerable wealth to promote Gaelic games across the country. In 2018 he gave €100,000 to every county board in the country.

Speaking to indpendent.ie, one county board outlined the significance of Mr McManus's latest donation.

“It's massive, because clubs are at their wits' end,” he said.
