A raffle also took place throughout the day, for items donated by a number of local businesses, community groups, and charities.

Sergeant Brian Stones said it was a great day for all. “We were delighted to be able to host the older person’s Christmas party,” he said.

“It’s a great event for An Garda Síochána to be able to host and it really shows the commitment we have to the older persons, the elderly, and the vulnerable in our community.

“I’d also like to thank the Annebrook for hosting it and also Superintendent Moran and Inspector Loughrey from Mullingar Garda Station for their support in running the event.”

Sergeant Stones added, “It’s a great way for older persons in the community to come in and spend some time engaging with us.”

Garda Fiona Walsh was equally as happy with the Christmas do.

“I just want to thank everybody for being involved in the organising of this,” she said.

“We’ve had sponsorship from the likes of the Rotary Club and the Lions Club, then spot prizes from sponsors like Cleary Electric, Joanne Killian, the 1428 Club, and the ICA in Castlepollard.”

Garda Walsh added that the event “is greatly appreciated by everyone in the community and the older people really enjoy it”.
