‘It’s been a privilege to serve the families of Mullingar’

The curtain recently came down on a 42 year long career in midwifery with the retirement of Marie Corbett, Director of Midwifery at Mullingar Regional Hospital.

Marie has spent the last 37 years working within the maternity services in Mullingar where she has been the Director of Midwifery since 2018. Previously she spent the start of her career in St Vincent’s Hospital and The Coombe Hospital, Dublin. She has seen many changes and improvements in the maternity service in Mullingar within her time there and was privileged to be part of the progression.

“Midwifery is a unique profession where you are privileged to be sharing the most intimate, vulnerable and most happy time in a woman’s life. I have loved my career both at the coal-face and through management, and that is what strikes me most when reflecting on the unit I am leaving now - the culture of openness, willingness to embrace change and the willingness of all the staff to bring change into our daily practice”.

"It’s been a privilege to serve the women and families of Mullingar and the surrounding areas for so many years. I will miss the amazing staff", Marie told the Westmeath Examiner.

Formerly Marie Hanlon from Rochfortbridge, she and her husband Pat live in Dysart. They have three children, Gillian and Avril who are living in Dublin and Dysart respectively and Andrew who is currently working in Australia.
