Welcoming back a club legend to Mullingar RFC

It was a special day at Mullingar Rugby Football Club when they welcomed back Niall Hennessy, a star of our first team in the early 2000s. Niall, who used to shine on the field in the Leinster division, was here with his under-10 team from Navan.

The club was buzzing with excitement as Niall’s team prepared to face our own under-10s, coached by Aubrey Pearson, another of our club’s legends and Niall’s former teammate. It was a perfect morning for rugby, with the sun shining and the field in great condition.

The match was a fantastic display of young talent, with both teams showing skills that made us all proud. It wasn’t just about the game; it was about the spirit of rugby, the joy of playing, and the connections that last a lifetime.

At half-time, a special moment unfolded as Niall reunited with Aubrey and Ray Murphy, another former teammate. Standing together, they were a symbol of lasting friendship and the bonds formed through rugby. Their laughter and shared memories were a highlight of the day.

This reunion wasn’t just about remembering the good old days. It was a reminder of what Mullingar RFC is all about — friendship, community, and nurturing the next generation of players. It was heartwarming to see the values of sportsmanship and respect reflected in our young players, values that Niall and Aubrey have always stood for.

As the day ended, everyone left with a sense of pride and joy. It was a day that showed how rugby brings people together, creating friendships that stand the test of time. Here at Mullingar RFC, it’s more than just a game; it’s a community, a family, and a place where legends are always welcome.
