Impressive seven-goal victory over Daingean

CCFL Div 3B

Kinnegad Juniors 7 v 0 Daingean FC

It was top versus bottom in the league at Breedon Park on Sunday. Daingean, missing a number of regulars, struggled to compete with an almost full strength Kinnegad team.

The home team hit six first half goals: Ciaran Bracken opened the scoring after a fine team move and assist from strike partner Gary Caffrey. Conor Fox, in at right back today, with a cross come shot from wide right that went in over the ‘keeper’s head. Adam O’Hagan with a fine finish from a corner kick. Midfielder Liam Waldron found his shooting boots with a worldly from outside the box and Scott Clynes hit two goals before the break for a six goal lead at half-time.

Kinnegad introduced fresh legs from the start of the second half. Paul Carpenter, Luke Corless, Dan Plant, Mark Armstrong and Daryl O’Reilly all came on as the home team continued to dominate and create chances. Man of the match, Scott Clynes made it 7 and completed a fine performance and his hat-trick with a great run and finish.

In truth, it should have been more as Kinnegad missed a number of second half chances. Daingean take a lot of credit for keeping going under a lot of pressure all over the pitch. This was a good day all ‘round for Kinnegad, who remain in a good spot on top of the league.

SFAI Trophy last

32 U15s

Kinnegad Jnrs 3 vs 2 Tullamore Utd

Kinnegad’s U15s were away to Tullamore Utd in Leah Victoria Park in the last 32 of the SFAI Trophy on Saturday. Kinnegad had the better of the first 15 minutes creating a few chances, but the Tullamore Utd team were here to play and were competing well against a Kinnegad team missing some key players through injury. Kinnegad took the lead with Josh McG putting the ball past the keeper into the bottom left hand. Tullamore started to get into the game more and got a deserved goal taken lovely by their striker into the roof of the net to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Into the second half and it was all to play for. Kinnegad started to move the ball quicker and started to dominate the play, but Tullamore were always a threat. Kinnegad got their second goal from some great link-up play between Charlie, Bradley and Ben G with a super shot from the edge of box into the corner of the goal.

Kinnegad were on top and a short time later Odhran scored his 4th goal of the season in as many games to make it 3-1 with 15 minute to go. Kinnegad took their foot off the pedal and allowed Tullamore back into the game, a snap shot that seemed to trickle over the line to make it 3-2 and to make it a nervous last 10 minutes. Kinnegad had opportunities to extend their lead but just didn’t take their chances. The team will learn and move on.

It was a great game to watch and we wish Tullamore Utd the best in their league campaign. It was also about the Respect our Game initiative run by the FAI which was a great success on Saturday between two great teams.

We would like to thank everyone for the support today and a huge thanks to our team sponsor Hardwood Scaffolding and Plant.

Team: Sachin, Dean, David, Gavin, Ben C, Odhran, Josh McG, Charlie, Bradley, Evan, Miles, Josh M, Heaven and Ben G, Vince, Ben.

U13 girls

Malahide Utd 0

Kinnegad Juniors 1

This was Kinnegad’s U13 girls’ first game back after a long Christmas break on Sunday, January 28. Kinnegad started off brightly with Sophia Clynes putting lots of pressure on the Malahide goalkeeper with some super shots on goal.

Midway through the first half, Lucy Lovett latched onto a lovely ball from midfield, broke the deadlock with a clinical goal and the first half ended 1-0.

The second half had started off similarly in what was a really tight game, but with the introduction of Caoimhe Flynn just back from illness helped give Kinnegad the edge in midfield. Both teams created chances but both keepers were playing well with two super saves from Kinnegad keeper Leah Slevin to ensure Kinnegad held on for the three points.

Credit due to a really good Malahide team who battled on till the end 1-0 Kinnegad.

WOTM: Alice Gilsenan. Alice chased down and calmly dealt with every ball that came her way. Well done.

Special mention to Amelie DeLacy who played her debut game for Kinnegad on the day.

Kinnegad Jnrs 0 vs 3

Tullamore Town

Kinnegad’s U15 team were away to Tullamore Town in Leah Victoria Park on Saturday, January 27. Tullamore are the team to beat in this division and Kinnegad knew they were in for a battle today. Kinnegad had the better of the first 15 minutes creating a few chances, but the Tullamore back line were solid and broke down most of the chances Kinnegad had. It wasn’t until the last few minutes of the first half that Kinnegad conceded a soft goal from a free kick: it seemed an offside goal but the decision went against Kinnegad. Tullamore and Kinnegad kept cancelling out each other’s attacks until half-time.

In the second half Kinnegad knew they were still in the game and if they could only convert one of their chances it might have been a different scoreline. With 15 minutes to go Tullamore scored a second from another set piece, a corner that Kinnegad didn’t defend properly. Kinnegad battled hard but Tullamore’s midfield were starting to control the game.

Kinnegad kept battling to get a goal and the coach decided to go three at the back and tried to push forward more attacking players, but it was Tullamore who took advantage and broke through the defence to seal the win with another goal, with five minutes to go.

Kinnegad were disappointed with the result but not with the performance, knowing that they competed well against a top quality team. Hopefully we can take from the game and improve, knowing that the standard in this division is really competitive.
