Patrick Street development refused planning permission

Westmeath County Council has refused planned permission for a new housing development proposed for Patrick Street.

The unsuccessful planning application lodged by Rosselwave Limited, included details for the construction of six two-storey terraced houses on a site at Grange Heights and Patrick Street. The application also included details for the alteration and extension of an existing semi-detached house on the site, and a new site entrance and access road.

In the Manager's Order, the council said that given the "restricted nature and prominent location of the subject site...the proposed development constitutes over-development of a restricted site and results in a cramped and substandard form of development".

"The proposed development would result in a poor residential environment for future occupiers and would depreciate the value of properties in the vicinity."

The council also said that the proposed development would be "detrimental to public and road safety".
