Demand meant Student Players performed additional shows

Such was the success of the production of Les Misérables by the Mullingar Student Players that the Mullingar Arts Centre had to add an extra day to accommodate the huge level of interest.

It was an amazing production and the standard of acting and singing was simply outstanding from the young, very talented performers.

It was the group’s third time in 20 years to stage the Tony Award-winning musical, which first ran on Broadway for 16 years. It returned with a fresh, young cast that succeeded in moving audiences to tears all over again.

The lead roles were played by Emma Rogerson (Fantine), Sean McDonnell (Jean Valjean), Sean Kelly (Javert), Emily Shaw (Eponine) and Katie Purdue (Cosette). The show featured other very talented performers such as Tiarnán Foy, Josh Griffin, Caolán Cleary, Anna Casey, Otto Stavausis and Stella McKeown. In total, the production featured some 50 young performers.

The production team of Sean Lynch (director), Angela Lynch (musical director), Sarah Corrigan (choreographer) and Sam Gilmartin (assistant director) can certainly be proud of how successful the show was. The musical received “tumultuous ovations” at each performance, noted Sean Lynch, who is also the arts centre director. The extremely talented young performers “had the audiences crying and laughing throughout the entire show” he remarked.

The show ran from Tuesday April 2 to Saturday April 6, with the matinee on Sunday April 7.
