London calling as Westmeath team named for Tailteann Cup trip
Dermot McCabe has named his starting team for the Lake County's second Tailteann Cup Group 3 fixture against London in McGovern Park, Ruislip on Sunday afternoon (throw-in, 2pm).
There is one change to the starting team which defeated Antrim in TEG Cusack Park last weekend, Nigel Harte replacing Brian Cooney in the half forward line. The return of Ray Connellan to the playing squad following his injury enforced substitution in the Leinster championship loss to Kildare is certainly a boost for McCabe.
Surprisingly, two prominent members of the Westmeath U20 team, Tadhg Baker and Shane Ormsby - who will contest the All Ireland 'B' football championship final against Monaghan on Wednesday evening next - have also been named among the substitutes for the trip to London.
Westmeath will be hoping to build upon their comprehensive opening group win over Antrim during which ace marksman Luke Loughlin scored 1-1,7 continuing his rich vein of scoring form.
Acknowledged as one of the favourites for this year's second tier senior football championship competition, victory over London will place the Lake County in a strong position for knockout stage progression ahead of their final group fixture with Limerick.
