Wrafter Family Band to launch first original single at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann

Kilbeggan based musicians, The Wrafter Family Band, are set to mark a milestone in their musical journey with the release of their first original single, ‘That Tune’, on Friday, August 8, followed by a live debut performance at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Wexford the very next day.

Written by Offaly poet and songwriter Anthony Sullivan, their song titled ‘That Tune’ marks the band’s return to the recording studio for the first time since their debut EP in 2019. The single will also be the family’s first ever original release, which is a proud moment for the talented group.

The Wrafters will officially launch the track on the Fleadh’s iconic Gig Rig stage in Wexford on Saturday, 9 August. In addition to their headline performance, the band is also scheduled to appear at Sinnott’s on the Quay throughout the week.

Band leader and father Peter Wrafter expressed excitement about the double milestone:

“It’s such an honour to have been invited to perform on the Gig Rig. The Fleadh is like the Glastonbury of Irish traditional music, it's a dream for any performer. To be part of it, and to debut our first original track there, makes it even more special,” he said.

The new single is also a showcase of the promising young talent in the band. Conor (20) and Thomas Wrafter (16) co-produced the song alongside the legendary Westmeath-based producer Seamus Cullinane at Roseland Studios in Moate. Cullinane’s production credits include some of the biggest names in Irish music, from Foster and Allen to Nathan Carter.

Conor, Thomas, and their sister Aimee (15) are no strangers to the stage. Since first capturing national attention on The Late Late Show in 2017 with their rendition of The Blarney Stone, the Wrafter Family Band has gone on to perform in venues from Leinster House to the 3Arena, and have supported top acts like Nathan Carter, The Fureys, The High Kings, and Boy George.

The family's résumé also includes appearances on TG4’s Réalta agus Gaolta and RTÉ’s Today Show, as well as high-profile festival slots at the National Ploughing Championships and previous Fleadh Cheoil events.

The Wrafter Family Band continues to build on a reputation that has taken root here in the midlands but is now reaching far beyond.

‘That Tune’ will be available across all streaming platforms from Friday, August 8th.
