Farm Safety Community Champions Ned Kearney, Maura Canning, Bernie Wade, Geraldine Delaney, Mary Oakley, Niamh Monahan, Robert Lally, (L-R Front) Alma Jordan, Irish Rural Link, and Aisling Kelly launch Irish Rural Link’s new Farm Safety Community Champion programme to equip local communities with a representative to act as a Champion to combat rural isolation and workforce shortages.

A new community led approach to farm safety launches nationwide

Irish Rural Link has announced their new farm safety initiative, which focuses on tackling labour and isolation concerns on Irish farms.

The Farm Safety Community Champion programme aims to equip communities with a specific representative who will help enforce farmer safety and wellbeing.

The project aims to offer citizens an opportunity to reach out and offer support, which will ensure that the safety and well-being of the farming community are always a priority.

Throughout the country, there will be nine Farm Safety Community Champions, from a range of different backgrounds, including farming, community mentoring and teaching.

Irish Rural Link CEO, Seamus Boland, said: “The need for community has never been so important for farmers.

“With fluctuations in the market, inconsistent weather, and growing isolation, having the Farm Safety Community Champions will help build out our farming networks for a more connected rural society.

“We hope to see local communities take this as an opportunity to support, strengthen and sustain relationships with and between farmers for a more inclusive future.”
