Westmeath duo picked on Tailteann Cup 'Team of the Year'

Two Westmeath senior footballers have been named on the Tailteann Cup 'Team of the Year'.

Star forward Luke Loughlin and wing back Sam McCartan have been rewarded for their performances for Westmeath during the second tier competition.

Loughlin, who is preparing for Sunday week's senior club football championship final with The Downs, was the competition's top scorer, contributing 2-41 to the Lake County's cause.

St Loman's club player Sam McCartan also featured in the Tailteann Cup's scoring charts, recording a tally of 2-19 during the Lake County's campaign.

Westmeath, inaugural winners of the Tailteann Cup in 2022, were defeated by Wicklow at the quarter-final stage of this year's competition.

The winners will be presented with their awards tonight (Friday) at a special black-tie event at Croke Park where they will be guests of honour alongside the 'Champion 15' and Joe McDonagh Team of the Year selections. The event will be streamed live by the GAA on YouTube from 7pm.
