G4M&O blitz at St Loman’s Mullingar raises laughs, and funds for Little Blue Heroes
The G4M&O blitz at St Loman’s Mullingar yesterday, Saturday, had nine teams of ladies out for a bit of fun and exercise and with a mission to raise funds for Little Blue Heroes.
They did all that successfully, and the total raised was €2,270.
Carla Thompson from the host club, who led the organising of the event, said: “We would like to thank everyone who came to support our first G4M&O blitz, in aid of Little Blue Heroes.
"Thank you all for your contributions to what was a fantastic day. Thank you to all of the teams for travelling and participating and making it a fun, enjoyable and memorable day.”
Carla extended gratitude to everyone who helped on the day and in preparation for it. “Thank you to Laura Devine for the fun warm-up, Carol Cullen, Rita Blundell and Michelle Murphy for the registration and raffle, PJ McManus and Sean Quinn on car park duty, Ted Cronin, Enda Matthews, Dec Mulderry and Sinead Diskin for organising the pitches and set-up, Noel Boyce for the inflatables, Mick McAdden, Pat Layde, Ciara Blundell and Karen Hegarty for refereeing, Order of Malta for first aid, Heidi Molloy, Phoebe Molloy and Ellen Plunkett for face painting and to Luke Matthews and Indy Diskin for helping clean up on Saturday morning.
“Special thanks to Derek from the Juice Zone for the amazing spread of sandwiches and wraps and Eoghan from Apache pizza for the yummy pizzas.”
Carla also thanked the sponsors who have supported her team throughout the year and those who made donations and provided prizes for the raffle: Icon management; Barry Martin Motors; Richie Cleary; Apache Pizza; Kerrigans Bar; Clarkes Bar; The Crossed Keys The Juice Zone; Laura Devine Fitness; Sorelle Hair Design; Kash Beauty; N91 Pilates; Dalys Bar; Des Maguire; Belvedere House; Rock n Bowl; Omniplex Cinema; Bloomfield House Hotel; Mullingar Park Hotel; JP’s Steakhouse; Wilfs; Lulu bakes; Killucan Men’s Shed; Boycey Sports.
She also thanked her colleagues and friends on the St Loman’s G4M&O team: “We’ve had great numbers all year and are looking forward to plenty more years of fun and laughs. We wouldn’t be able to do this without your hard work and dedication.”
Explaining some of the background to the day, Carla said the Little Blue Heroes charity is important to her, as her daughter Lucy is a Little Blue Hero.
She helped revive the St Loman’s G4M&O team this year: “I just said I needed to get out of the house for an hour and there’s a lot of girls like me or in a position like me that just needed a bit of time to themselves.
“This is our first year (since Covid), so we said for the end of the year, we'd do a blitz as a fundraiser and we picked Little Blue Heroes.”
Lining out with the two St Loman’s teams were Shandonagh, Mullingar Shamrocks, Rochfortbridge, St Colmcille’s, Maynooth, Ballymahon and Forgney and Mostrim.
Declan Mulderry, St Loman’s G4M&O coach, said they had been disbanded at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, and this is their first year back. “There’s a really good interest in it this year. We’re averaging 20 women a night, once a week coming out to train, and we played loads of matches over the summer.
“It’s really enjoyable. We’re hoping to continue it on for a bit of the winter and then come for next season.”
Training has been on Wednesday evenings at St Loman’s and they’re switching to Cullion on Thursdays at 8 o’clock in November before the winter break.
More players are welcome and they can contact Declan on 087 211 8069 for more details.
