Zebo praises Mullingar RFC as one of most enthusiastic clubs
The annual ball at Mullingar Rugby Club on Sunday evening celebrated the club’s strong community, leading facilities and growing profile.
Special guest Simon Zebo said Mullingar Rugby Club has a reputation as one of the standout and most enthusiastic rugby clubs in the country and that he was delighted to attend the event.
Sports journalist Brendan Fanning added that the club has “one of the best facilities and club cultures” he has come across in Ireland, a comment that recognised the work of volunteers behind the scenes.
A focus of the evening was the club partnership with LooseHeadz, the international mental health rugby charity.
Hannah Stallard from LooseHeadz spoke about the welcome she received in Mullingar during last summer’s Guinness World Record event for the longest game of rugby, hosted at the club, and the support shown by Mullingar Rugby Club and the wider community in delivering an event that raised global awareness around mental health in sport.
During the ball, Paul Murphy accepted an official Guinness World Record certificate on behalf of the club.
He was recognised for his major volunteer role in the record-breaking event and for leading the development of the new LooseHeadz Lounge at Mullingar Rugby Club, the first facility of its kind in Ireland dedicated to mental health awareness within a rugby environment.
The evening was a tribute to the volunteers, members and supporters who continue to build a club known as much for community leadership and commitment to mental health support at both local and international level as for rugby.
