Lowry's final round to forget at US Masters

A closing score of 80 saw Shane Lowry tie for 30th position at the 2026 Masters on Sunday evening.

In contention for the major honour on Saturday following a solid round of 68, during which he aced the sixth hole, Lowry had a final round to forget slipping 26 positions on the leaderboard.

An opening hole bogey set the tone for Lowry's disappointing final round and a double bogey on the fifth hole contributed to a front nine score of 39.

Lowry went without a par for six straight holes on the back nine, a run that included two birdies, two bogeys, and two double bogeys, culminating in sis eight over par round.

However, Lowry’s 30th placed finish marked his best result at the US Masters since 2023, when he tied for 16th position.

His closest bid for the famous Green Jacket came in 2022, when he finished tied third, five shots behind Scottie Scheffler.

Meanwhile, it was a case of 'deja vu' for Lowry's compatriot Rory McIlroy as he staved off the late challenge of Scheffler to claim a consecutive Masters by one shot title in dramatic fashion.
