Man accused of assaulting woman at her home in Mullingar
A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting a woman at her home in Mullingar just over a year ago.
Brazilian national Douglas Cardoso, of 30 The Mills, Castleknock, Dublin 15, was also charged with stealing a mobile phone from an address at Ardleigh Vale, Mullingar, Westmeath on December 1, 2025.
Sgt Sheila Kenny provided details of the state evidence at Mullingar District Court and stated the alleged incident occurred at around 8pm as the woman returned home.
“She stated Mr Cardozo met her at the car in the driveway,” she said.
“When she got out, he put his hand on her shoulder and pushed her against the door of the car.”
Sgt Kenny stated the allegation of theft centred on allegations Mr Cardoso took the phone from inside the property after the woman went to a local Tesco store with her daughter to do some shopping.
The phone was valued at €250, court documents show.
The court was also told directions had instructed for the case to be dealt with in the District Court, and Judge Bernadette Owens accepted jurisdiction.
Defence solicitor Louis Kiernan said the state had provided the disclosure of state evidence, but applied for an adjournment to consider both charges his client was accused of.
Judge Owens granted that application and remanded Mr Cardoso on bail to Mullingar District Court on June 11, when a plea or date for hearing is expected.
