Westmeath minor team named for Carlow clash

Westmeath minor football manager Mick Dillon has named his team for this evening's Leinster championship preliminary quarter-final against Carlow in Tubberclair at 7.30pm.

There are five changes to the team who lost to Offaly in the final Group 2 game played in Kinnegad last week.

Moate All Whites player Aaron Claffey is listed to start at wing back and Multyfarnham's Rhys Brady also takes up a defensive role.

St Joseph's club player Mark Monaghan will partner Billy Stenson of Moate All Whites in centrefield.

In the forward line, Cill Óige's Darragh Deegan will start at right corner forward and he is joined in the full forward line by Hugo Corroon of Mullingar Shamrocks.

Following impressive wins over Longford and Dublin in the round robin phase of the provincial championship Westmeath suffered a blow to their Leinster title aspirations when Offaly claimed an eight-point win in Kinnegad.

The Lake County play a Carlow team who finished in the runner-up spot in Group 3, having defeated Kilkenny and Wexford, but losing to Wicklow.

Should Westmeath progress to the quarter-final, they will play Kildare, who claimed the runner-up position in Group 1, the Lilywhites achieving victories over Meath and Laois, before completing their round robin phase of games with a loss to group winners Louth.
