FTD Brothers set to tackle Mullingar in 32 marathon challenge
A few weeks ago the internet was captivated by the London Marathon, which saw several stories coming out about many of the participants.
One in particular focused on a young man running the Marathon with a 25kg fridge on his back.
That man was Jordan Adams, and he’s been diagnosed with ‘Early Onset’ Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
He is one half of the FTD Brothers along with his brother Cian who lost their mother to the same disease in 2016.
Following their mothers diagnosis Jordan, Cian and their older sister each got tested.
Unfortunately Jordan discovered that he had inherited the faulty gene and would one day succumb to the disease.
Since then Jordan and his brother Cian have been dedicated to raising awareness and money for Alzheimer's Research UK through various running challenges.
In fact Jordan ran the London Marathon in an effort to raise money.
Now he is currently on a mission to run a full marathon every day for 32 Days in every county in Ireland.
The challenge is dedicated to the memory of 12 relatives of his from Ireland who all died from FTD.
Having begun his mission on April 27 and has since been running a marathon every day.
Now, on Tuesday, May 13 the FTD Brothers will making their way to Mullingar who will play host to one of these marathon events, and organisers are calling on the local community to turn out in large numbers to provide encouragement and support throughout the day either by running some or all of the distance, provide water stops along the route or to cheer them on along the way.
Schools, community groups and members of the public are being encouraged to gather in Mullingar Town park on the day.
Jordan's 16th marathon is set to begin at 9:45 am and finish at approximately 2pm.
Schools are particularly encouraged to involve students, and local organisations are
asked to mobilise their members to help create a strong and uplifting atmosphere for
the runners.
“This is a unique opportunity for the Mullingar community to come together in support
of an inspiring cause. A large turnout would mean a great deal to The FTD Brothers as
they take on this remarkable challenge,” said the Mayor of Mullingar, Cllr. Mick Dollard.
Members of the public are encouraged to bring banners, wear bright colours, and help
generate a positive and energetic environment on the day.
