Free household hazardous waste collection day for Mullingar

Westmeath householders are being encouraged to take advantage of a free hazardous waste collection event taking place in Mullingar.

The one-day initiative, organised by Westmeath County Council in conjunction with regional waste management authorities, will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9am to 1pm at the Mullingar Civic Amenity Site in Zone C of the Mullingar Business Park.

The event provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials that may have accumulated in their homes, helping to protect both public health and the environment.

A wide range of household hazardous waste items will be accepted free of charge, including adhesives, aerosols, antifreeze, bleaches, detergents, drain cleaners, engine coolants, inks, glues, varnishes, resins, garden fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides. Motor oil will be accepted up to a limit of 25 litres per customer, while paint disposal will be restricted to 10 cans per customer.

Organisers have stressed that the collection is strictly for household waste and that commercial or farm waste will not be accepted. All materials must be presented in their original containers with labels intact where possible.

Residents are also reminded that certain items may have capacity restrictions and that waste cannot be left at the venue outside of opening hours.
