€185,000 to support voluntary and community groups

Social and Cultural Committee of North Midlands Credit Union annual awards event

The Social and Cultural Committee of North Midlands Credit Union recently held their annual awards event, honouring and supporting a diverse range of local voluntary organisations, and hosting representatives from numerous groups that benefited from this year’s funding.

The Credit Union’s Social and Cultural Fund was established to acknowledge and provide financial assistance to organisations that make a positive contribution to community life.

Now in its 28th year, the fund has distributed more than €2.6 million since it was established.

This year €185,000 was distributed. This year there were more than 360 applications, underlining the increasing demand for support and the significant impact of the fund.

Once again, the Credit Union team were proud to assist a broad spectrum of organisations across various sectors, including social and cultural projects, youth services, active ageing, community development and sports initiatives.

At the awards ceremony on Wednesday June 10, Brian Gillen, chairperson of the Social and Cultural Committee, commended the dedication of volunteers.

He emphasised the importance of recognising their invaluable work, noting that as a volunteer-led organisation, the Credit Union is delighted to support others who are equally committed to strengthening their communities.
