Dublin recorded its hottest-ever June

Last month was the fourth hottest June on record in Ireland, according to the Met Éireann Climate Statement.

Six weather stations broke their all-time maximum temperature records during the month of June.

The highest temperature recorded was 32.2 degrees in Athenry, Co Galway, on Thursday, June 25th.

Along with having its hottest month on record, Casement Aerodrome station in Dublin recorded the second-highest minimum temperature ever at 20.3 degrees.

13 stations broke their June maximum temperature records.

This included Mace Head, Co Galway (30.5 degrees), Claremorris, Co Mayo (31.3 degrees), Knock Airport, Co Mayo (30.3 degrees), Markree, Co Sligo (30.2 degrees) and Finner, Co Donegal (30.6 degrees).

Dublin also recorded the highest mean monthly temperature of 16.2 degrees at the Phoenix Park.

However, it was also a very wet month, with rainfall above average in several counties.

Newport, Co Mayo, had 143.6 mm of rain across June, an increase of 154 per cent of the average for June.

The place which saw the highest amount of rain on a day was Cork Airport, with 26.8 mm on Friday June 5th.
