Afternoon tea at the Áras
When Catherine Connolly became President of Ireland in November of last year, Mullingar woman Helen Kiernan wrote a card of congratulations to the Galway woman at Áras an Uachtarán - and was stunned when she later received an invitation from the Áras to join President Connolly for afternoon tea at a garden party on Tuesday June 23, along with three guests.
Thrilled, Helen asked Bríd Kearney, Ballynacargy; Marie O'Toole, Cullionbeg, and Bernadette Solon, Prospect, to go with her.
"We were wined, dined and entertained fantastically in weather conditions that were phenomenal," said Helen.
She revealed that there was a tour of the Áras followed by drinks on the lawn in the sun and at 3.30pm music started and there was delicious food inside the huge marquee.
"President Catherine Connolly spoke personally to every single person there," she stated.
