Traffic calming and safety measures under review

Traffic safety and road maintenance measures are under consideration across the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District following queries from Cllr Ken Glynn.

The council confirmed it will assess the need for additional measures in the Coill Rua estate, where concerns have been raised about speeding along a straight stretch at the rear of the development.

Officials pointed out to Cllr Glynn that several ramps are already in place but said the location will be examined to determine if further measures are required. Cllr Glynn said he had visited the site with the district engineer and intends to provide the officials with further detail.

In a separate response, the council confirmed that two ‘Children at Play’ signs will be installed in Greenpark Close in the second quarter of 2026.

Meanwhile, concerns over the condition of the L5802 at Slanestown were also raised by Cllr Glynn and the council indicated that repairs will be carried out as part of routine local road maintenance.

Cllr Glynn, who stated that the road had fallen into poor repair in recent years, urged that the works be prioritised and called for longer-term investment in the road.

“I think I’ve had it in for the last four years,” he said, adding that the route has deteriorated due to heavy machinery use.

District engineer Pat Kavanagh confirmed that repairs are imminent, and a velocity patcher was due to begin works shortly after the meeting.

“We expect to have a velocity patcher starting on Thursday,” he said. “We’ve put it on the list there and will prioritise it.”
